Jockey Club Community Arts Biennale 2015 - One Bowl, One Promise: Collecting Promises

"Give your mother a ten-second hug."

"Write a ‘Thank you’ card."

"Hold the door open for someone."

A simple act of kindness may seem insignificant by itself, but the cumulative effect of such acts can make a real difference. What kind of positive ripple effect can we create by simply being kinder to each other? 

We are now collecting promises to be added to one thousand One Bowl, One Promise rice bowls. Selected ideas will be announced on this page, and will be included onto the base of the rice bowls for public exchange! 

Exhibition information
Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation’s initiative One Bowl, One Promise uses art to encourage consideration and kindness within our community and promote traditional local handicrafts and folk art at the same time. 

This July, during the Jockey Club Community Arts Biennale 2015 exhibition, one thousand rice bowls painted with traditional patterns will be on display for the public. Each bowl is painted by one of the few remaining Canton porcelain painters, Mrs Lam of Chui Kee Porcelain on Peng Chau. On the base of each bowl will be a simple promise or pledge to the community. Visitors who pledge to honour one of these promises and document their good deeds will be able to take home the corresponding rice bowl!

Submission guidelines
We are seeking suggestions for small acts of kindness that people can commit to, and that will help make a difference to the community or brighten someone’s day.

•    or, post it on the One Bowl, One Promise Facebook event

As the bowls are small, your promise or pledge should be short! Promises written in Chinese should be 30 characters or less, and those written in English should be 50 characters or less (including punctuation).
